  Our Philosophy

In family businesses and small and medium sized companies, more and more successions are going to women. Female successors assume responsibility in leading positions and as members of advisory boards. The quotas of women are still small, but will increase rapidly over the coming years. In the near future familienunternehmen.ch will be promoting women's potential. We are very ambitious in bringing together men and women who have the same idea of partnership and who could imagine handing over succession in their company to a woman. We want to stay abreast of this change of opinion and we want to find solutions which include women.

Who do we wish to address?

Our knowledge and experience are directed at the various people who are confronted with the issue of succession within a family business. They could be as one of the following:

  • a designated successor in a family business
  • an entrepreneur looking for a succession solution in his own company
  • a member of the owner-family
  • the (future) manageress who is interested in the take-over of the company

We offer our professional assistance and advice in these areas by posing the following questions:

  1. 1. I am a potential successor

"I've worked in my father's company for three years. I see that he finds it difficult letting go. I need a professional woman to speak to who knows this kind of problem and who can offer practical help to resolve this delicate situation."

  2. 2. I am a family member and don't work in the company

"I will not be working in my parents' company, but I will inherit a certain quantity of shares. Now I ask myself whether I should ask to become a member of the advisory board?"

"My parents worry about having to sell their company. I'm still too young (25) to take over its management and I am in the middle of my studies. I might wish to join the company later however. How can I address this problem with my parents so that they feel prepared to deal with the question of appointing a successor?"

"We are the children of third-generation owners (I'm the oldest daughter) and we don't currently know whether we wish to carry on with the family business. Could we carry on with the business, even if we don't have an active part in its management? What steps do we have to take as a family?"

"I had to sign a shareholder-agreement which offers me less than those owned by the other members of my family who are working in our company."

  3. 3. I am member on the advisory board of a family business

"I've been a member of the advisory board of a family business for ten years. The question of finding a CEO has been repeatedly postponed by the owner. This thorny problem is simply not being tackled. What active steps could I take as a member of the advisory-board?"

"We are looking for a successor for the advisory-board."

  4. 4. I am an entrepreneur and am looking for a (family-owned) company without successor

"I've been working for twenty years in different positions in companies of different sizes. I feel that I am now fully competent and ready to run a business of my own. What is the best way of finding a suitable company?"

  5. 5. I am an entrepreneur and looking for a successor outside of the family

"My daughter will definitively not be following in my footsteps. We are the owners of a successful company and are looking for a succession solution. If we don't find one, we will have to sell it."

"We have a successful family business which we would not like to sell. As our children are still at school, we are looking for a CEO-successor who will match our corporate philosophy and will continue our successful business."

6.6. I have other questions relating to our family business and the appointment of a successor and I would like to receive professional advice and support.

  7. 7. I am a specialist* and would be interested in receiving further information relating to successorship.
